Behind the whistle ...

I've had hunting/working dogs most of my adult life.  Terriers and lurchers filled my life in my teens to mid 30’s. Then I became obsessed with greyhounds, training them and racing them. I would travel to the Irish sales 2, or 3 times a year, buying what I hoped would be the next Derby winner.

I never quite found the dog for the real big races, but did manage to own a bitch that ran in the Greyhound race which used to be run from the last fence to the winning line at Cheltenham on Gold Cup day.  Parading in front of the grandstand of 60,000 people with my dog will always remain a very special memory.

So now I train Gundogs, the 2023 season will be my 11th season trialling, I have been fortunate enough to be successful gaining field trial awards including many novice and several Open wins and qualified 5 times for the Championships with 4 different dogs, but just as important to me is i have gained the friendship, respect and support of many of fellow handlers.

I am an A panel Judge and judging is something i really enjoy doing, occasionally i judge tests in the summer months but obviously judging a trail in the shooting season is something special, and I've been fortunate enough to be asked to judge trials in places such as Finland which was a great experiencebut my first love is still the thrill of running a competitive dog in a trial, that is what gets me out of bed in the morning to see to the dogs and clean the kennels.

Hope you all enjoy the site.
