The Season So Far

Well the start of the season wasn't a lucky one for us, I kept getting high draws in the trials and it looked like i was never going to get a run.

Eventually my luck changed and to date we have managed to run in 3 trials...2 Novice's and 1 Open

The Tyne Tees and Tweed 9/11/16

This was our first run of the season and the first run with Ruby in a trial, it was a long drive the Scottish Boarders and with traffic problems thrown in it turned into a 9hr round trip just to get to the trial and back. The trial was run in woodland with a bracken bottom which was nice to show the dogs off in but they had to work to find the birds. Ruby had a good first run but lost some of her confidence on her second run which cost her.... she came away with a third place, so a decent start to her trialling career was made

The Dukeries 14/11/16

This was our first Open run of the season and also the first Open run for Dex It was only a hour or so away so nice to be having a local trial The ground

was mainly set aside and hedge rows/ditches and the majority of game was Partridges. Dex had a really nice first run with 2 nice marked retrieves on Pheasants, i know i would say this but he really is an exceptional marker of shot game. His second run was a bit uneventful we did pick a bird that landed in a ditch but little else happened and come the award we came away with another 3rd place.

The Leicestershire 17/11/16

This was the second run for Ruby so we was hoping she would go a step closer than her first, the ground was a mixture of hedge rows and set aside/white grass. Her first run was a bit messy and she was either in a hedge with bramble or a thin strip of set aside, we had plenty of flushes from the hedge but none could be shot. we eventually picked a blind loose Partridge which wasn't a hard retrieve and she did it nice enough. Second run was much tidier but very short, this time we were in set aside and we got a quick flush followed by a nice marked retrieve and then told to put the lead back on, that'll do you. The judges called for a 3 dog run off and we was 1 of the 3 called for, long story short we came second but she hadn't lost her confidence like she did in her first trial so we're heading in the right direction and i do have to keep reminding myself she is only 20 months old and still very immature in a lot of her ways.
